Famous for streetfood stalls, Portobello and Golborne Markets also have fantastic restaurants
As you meander along Portobello Road and Golborne Road enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the market, you’ll notice there’s a fantastic selection of streetfood stalls.
But if you’re in the mood to sit down and relax in a full service restaurant for a leisurely lunch after some full-on shopping, Portobello and Golborne have an excellent selection of restaurants eager to serve you delicious food.
Here are a few of our favourites from the many that we could have chosen from.
Saporitalia, 222 Portobello Road, W11 1LJ
For an authentic taste of Italy on Portobello Road, Saporitalia is hard to beat. Owners are the brothers Franco and Valentino Ferro from Sorrento and their restaurant features a genuine wood-fired oven for the spectacular pizzas. Other dishes include pastas like gnocchi alla Sorentino and spaghetti all vongole made with fresh clams. Highly recommended is the spigola alla brace, charcoal grilled sea bass fillet with rocket and cherry tomatoes.

Goode & Wright, 271 Portobello Road, W11 1LR
Chef Grant Holloway offers tempting lunchtime dishes like duck egg omelette with chorizo and charred tomatoes, slow roast lamb with chilli apple chutney, and fried buttermilk chicken schnitzel. The original Goode and Wright was a school outfitters dating from the 1920s. When the current owners renovated the property, they found the old shop sign, restored it and adopted the name in a fine piece of cultural preservation.

Boom Burger, 272 Portobello Road, W10 5TY
Boom Burger proprietor Josh de Lisser says, “The idea of burgers with Caribbean flavours comes from a childhood spent in Jamaica.” And that’s just what you get here, burgers with Caribbean spices served in a laidback ambience. The signature dish is the Boom Burger, 100% beef and smothered with cheese and bacon jam. Other choices include pan-fried red snapper and slow-cooked pork belly with homemade jerk sauce. Another must-try is the plantain fries.

Galicia, 323 Portobello Road, W10 5SY
Walk into the restaurant’s bar at the front, and you could imagine you’d stepped straight into a bar in northern Spain. Locals love this restaurant and if you like traditionally cooked tapas and other Spanish dishes, you’ll love it too. Enjoy a full meal or relax with a glass of Estrella beer and a dish of Serrano ham, a platter of octopus cooked with olive oil and paprika or some hearty tortilla. (Closed in August for well-earned holidays.)
