In a new regular feature we spotlight three of Portobello and Golborne Market’s most interesting stalls.
The Old Printing Shop stall on Portobello road, near Westbourne Grove, is a father and son enterprise run by Michael and Daniel Fenton. Michael worked in the print business and has been collecting wooden and metal type, illustrative blocks, printing presses and other print related items since 1975.
In modern times, we’ve become used to computer printing but the unique artefacts of the Old Printing Shop stall recall a bygone era when printing was a highly skilled trade. The objects on the stall make ideal gifts for anyone who appreciates old-fashioned craftsmanship and the items also have an intrinsic beauty all of their own.

Thomas Dean is the Portobello Road Mushroom Man and his family have been in the fruit and veg business for nearly 50 years. His father used to buy veg at Old Covent Garden and Thomas was involved in the family business from a young age.
Thomas stocks an exotic range of mushrooms such as cepes, morels, porcini and girolles, and he also has truffles in season. On top of that he offers an excellent selection of organic veg. You’ll find Thomas at Pitch 93 just near the corner of Portobello Road and Westbourne Park Road on every day except Thursday and Sunday.

In the Garden is on Golborne Road every Friday and Saturday and if you’re looking for imaginatively designed planters with colourful blooms, you must visit this stall. Plants are set in all kinds of containers ranging from antique-style pots to vintage Oxo tins and giant tea cups.
Holly and her mum Nikki run the stall and you’ll find them at the corner of Golborne Road and Wornington Road every Friday and Saturday. As well as the stall, In the Garden offers a full plant design and maintenance service and can play, style and maintain your garden, patio or terrace.
